Welcome to Bark Busters Home Dog Training Mornington, my name is Paul Labrum, your local dog behaviour therapist and trainer. My background was originally in the automotive industry until suddenly it wasn’t. Retrenched in a corporate shake up I suddenly needed a new direction in life and an income. I searched around for a job only to discover that I was considered too old to be employed. So, I started looking at ways to become self employed and after a lot of time on searching the internet I found Bark Busters.
Until then if you had told me I could make a good living training dogs I would have laughed, but it turns out that you can and have fun doing it. I contacted head office and spoke with one of our founders to find out more, and within a week Danny had hopped on a plane to meet me in Melbourne. Shortly after, I went on a couple of discovery lessons with an established trainer, and I was blown away with what he achieved in just three hours. I was hooked and we bought a franchise, and I was in training within the month, with the best of the best and I was preparing to start my journey.
All of that was twenty years ago and I’m still here helping people discover who their dog really is and how to be the leader of the pack. The relief of seeing a dog learn to relax and look to it’s owner for leadership is rewarding. Seeing a dog owners' sense of relief that their dog can behave and be happy makes it all worthwhile.
People tend to classify dogs by breed not temperament, so they think all Pit Bulls are dangerous, so are Rottweilers etc. There are some breed traits, Border Collies tend to herd other creatures including children, and German Shepherds tend to guard their family, but far more important is the character of individual dogs and importantly how they are trained.

Bark Busters training is different, it is a system that has evolved over many years and is still evolving today. We do not use harsh methods or physical punishment. We show our owners how to “Speak Dog”. It is about understanding your dog’s motivation and body language and how to use their own body language and voice tones. We want to end up with a thinking dog and to provide dog owners with the confidence to be the pack leaders.
Every lesson is different and tailored to the needs of the dog owner, and in some cases the physical limitations of either the dog or the owner too. We are results driven and will address the problems in a hands-on manner.
A lady who had the local council talking to her because her dog had rushed at a child on a scooter needed some “back to boot camp” training, followed by a trip to the local skate park. The back to basics restored her confidence and she was able to walk her dog past children on skateboards, bikes and an electric wheelchair with no reaction.
The other big difference with Bark Busters system is our “Life of the Dog Support Guarantee”. We know of no one else who will return free of charge for the life of the dog if further help is needed. My personal record is a customer who needed help ten years after the original lesson, and his trainer had moved on years before.
