I am Kristie Toombs, your local Bark Busters dog behaviour therapist and trainer. I have always had a natural affinity with dogs and all animals and a desire to have a career that involved working closely with them. When I first discovered the Bark Busters method of training dogs, I was in awe of how quickly it transformed unwanted behaviour in dogs, without fear, force or bribery. I knew then that this was what I wanted to do. Growing up in the country, on farmland, I was always surrounded by a large variety of different types of animals, but especially dogs. I was always in awe of the farm dogs and how intelligent they were communicating with their owners to round up livestock, and the bond between owner and dog. I knew that my calling was to work with animals and was lucky to have vet nursing courses available to me through years 11 and 12 as part of my HSC. I studied hard over those 2 years and am happy to say that I passed all units with the highest marks on everything dog related. Unfortunately, after school I was unable to continue with my vet nursing studies but I never stopped wanting to work with animals. I have finally been given that chance after many years and I am grateful to Bark Busters and my clients for giving me the opportunity to finally achieve my dream.

Puppies need understanding and careful handling, there is a lot to learn about owning a new puppy and I can help you settle your new puppy in and help you through that settling in period too. And when I see frustration in the household, it’s mostly due to a lack of effective communication.

Seeing the ‘WOW’ moments that regularly occur during the first training session amazes my clients and a big weight is lifted as they realise that their dog was very trainable, and it just needed to understand what they wanted. Some of the dogs I see are thought to be untrainable, their humans have tried everything, and they think they are out of options, but they have not tried Bark Busters.

A recent case of a Kelpie named Coco comes to mind. Coco was banned from Day Care because she was herding the Poodles and would bark all day at anything that moved. Her behaviour was causing her family a lot of stress. They never knew that owning a dog could make them so anxious.

When at home, she would jump on the couch, on her owners, the grandchildren, visitors and relatives. She would bark constantly and was deterring friends from visiting her owner’s home. She would bark if left alone, hence the reason she was being taken to day care. As much as they loved her dearly, they could no longer tolerate her behaviour.
